A rodent infested and mould-ridden caravan has finally been removed from a Ross-shire gateway site next to the A9 after months of lobbying.

Isle councillor Morven-May MacCallum welcomed the removal of the eyesore from a car park close to the Kessock Bridge

According to the Black Isle councillor, there was a person living in the caravans just off the A9 for a number of years. Highland Council stepped in to offer the individual a home, however this means the caravans have been empty for well over a year.

Councillor Morven-May MacCallum said: "I’m absolutely delighted to say that after 19 months of hard work and after so many calls to Transport Scotland, that these caravans have been removed!

"I was made aware of the issue of the unsanitary and unsightly caravans shortly after being elected, and I spent a long time working with Highland Council officers and then directly with Transport Scotland to try and get the caravans removed.

"There were a number of obstacles but I’m really delighted that they have now been removed and I’m incredibly grateful to Highland Council staff for cleaning up all the terrible debris that was left behind.

"It’s fantastic. I can’t say how delighted I am to have gotten them removed. To give Transport Scotland their due, there was a number of unforeseen delays – but the state they were in with rotten, rodent infested and black mould ridden; and the length of time it took to remove them was very frustrating."

After announcing the caravans had been removed on her Facebook page, the Black Isle councillor received well over 150 comments voicing their support on community notice boards, as well as receiving praise from fellow Wester Ross councillor, Liz Kraft.
