Volunteer lifeboat crew members, including trainees, on exercise in Inverness Marina went help a fishing vessel after it put out a distress call.

The RNLI Kessock crew became aware of the urgent call from the vessel, which was in the area yesterday afternoon, and offered immediate help, diverting from training.

Remaining Kessock lifeboat crew members were paged to assemble while the Atlantic 85 crew already afloat made its way to the vessel's location.

RNLI Kessock said: "On arrival at the scene our crew assisted the skipper with an engine restart and stood by as it made its safe passage back to port.

"We diverted from routine training to an emergency situation and it was a very successful outcome with a great opportunity for the trainees on board to put into practice the skills accumulated so far on station and most recently acquired at RNLI College in Poole."
