A ROSS-SHIRE MP has pledged action to support terminally ill people with the cost-of-living crisis.

Charity Marie Curie says over 8500 terminally ill people in Scotland die in poverty.

Marie Curie also found that 1 in 4 terminally ill people of working age spend the last year of their lives in poverty and that working age people with children are more likely than any other group to fall below the poverty line at the end of life.

Easter Ross MP Jamie Stone commented: "No one should spend their final days terrified about money.

"The combination of income loss and added costs brought on by terminal illness is, for many, a direct cause of poverty. To make matters worse, the cost of travelling lengthy journeys to and from appointments, medications, and higher energy bills often culminate once people are forced to reduce or stop working.

"This is why I will be supporting the Terminal Illness (Support and Rights) Bill when it comes to Parliament in November and will be lobbying the Treasury to grant those living with terminal illnesses support with the cost-of-living crisis."
