NO new cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in the Highlands yesterday, new figures from the Scottish Government have revealed.

The total number of confirmed cases in the region still sits at 214.

The news comes as the number of people in Scottish hospitals with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 fell once again – with 1710 patients receiving treatment at midnight last night. That number is down from the 1748 recorded yesterday and the 1776 just 48 hours ago.

The falls were mirrored by the number of people in intensive care, which fell by seven for the second day in a row to 141.

However, nationally, Scotland recorded an additional 288 cases of the virus yesterday, taking the total since the outbreak began to 9697.

And there were 64 further deaths of people with confirmed coronavirus.

Elsewhere, in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh cases in Orkney, Shetland or Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian diagnosed another 36 cases to take its overall total to 638, while the Tayside number now stands at 1199.
