NO fresh cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the Highlands in the past 24 hours, official figures have revealed.

There have been 334 positive tests for the virus in the NHS Highland area since the outbreak began – the same as yesterday.

The 24 hour period without newly-confirmed cases follows an earlier three-day window without diagnoses last weekend.

The number of people being treated in the region's hospitals also dropped from 13 to 12 last night.

The figures came amid a backdrop of 105 new positive tests across the whole of Scotland, which has now recorded 14,856 confirmed cases overall. The true figure is expected to be much higher.

The number of people being treated in Scottish hospitals for confirmed Covid-19 last night stood at 909 – down from 943 yesterday. Of those, 43 were in intensive care.

But the death toll among people who tested positive for the virus rose by 37 to 2221.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north, there were once again no new cases in Orkney, Shetland or Eileanan Siar.

There were just two fresh positive tests in NHS Grampian, which has now recorded 1218 cases since the pandemic started. The number of people in its hospitals with the virus fell from 80 to 72, of whom six patients were in intensive care.

And NHS Tayside recorded an additional 15 confirmed cases of Covid-19, for a running total of 1632. Only 20 people were receiving treatment for the virus in its hospitals though.
