A WARD in Raigmore Hospital which was forced to close to new admissions for several days due to a scabies outbreak could reopen soon.

NHS Highland confirmed on Thursday that treatment for the condition had "concluded" and that once the ward has been given a deep clean it will be free to reopen.

The affected ward was Ward 6C, which covers general medicine, cardiology, diabetes, and endocrinology.

A spokeswoman for NHS Highland said: "Treatment has concluded so, once the ward has been deep cleaned, it will reopen."

The welcome news comes after a period of intense pressure at the hospital after a higher than normal number of patients required admission.

This led to longer than normal waiting times in the accident and emergency department.
