AN Easter Ross distillery has given new colours to its buildings as works for a new mural were completed at the weekend.

Adding to the town's rich mural trail, the new mural features on Whyte and Mackay's Invergordon Distillery was started and completed last week by Tain-based studio DUFI Art.

The mural, celebrating the water of life, decorates one of the warehouse buildings on the west gate of the site.

This is the second artwork of its kind that the distillery has commissioned, the first one of which was facing the railway line to celebrate the distillery's 60th anniversary in 2021.

Fin Macrae from DUFI art, who was leading the project, said: "I have done mural projects for a few years now and I have worked several times with the artists I have worked with for this project.

"We had perfect weather for the whole week, it was great!

"It's pretty much the largest mural in the Highlands, and there's not many murals as bug as this one in Scotland. It's a big piece of work.

"I am all for championing what we have in the Highlands, there's' a lot of great talent up here.

"I am a graphic designer and when you see companies from up here that are going to the central belt, I just think you are missing out on talent on their doorstep. There's really good people up here in all aspects in the creative industry.

"I am just delighted to have had this opportunity, it was great fun!"

Other artists that worked on the project were Richie Cumming, Fraser Gray, Martin McGuinness, Blythe Mackenzie and Al McInness.

Calum Davis, maturation Manager at Invergordon distillery, said: "After we commissioned the mural that faces the railway line, it turned out so well and Fin did such an excellent job that we thought we'd continue that onto the West gate so that the public and everyone going to the school or the leisure centre could see it.

"We are possibly looking at doing another one on the other warehouse.

"Invergordon is quite well known for its murals so we thought we are keeping in with the other murals in the town by keeping one on our site.

"We let the artist come up with the design and he had lots of ideas, so it wasn't hard to find one that we all liked.

"As a grain distillery we are a bit different from the more design-led malt whisky distilleries but we are still keen to improve the look of our site and to give our neighbours and residents a better view. "
