Seven new jobs are up for grabs to support a net zero future in the Highlands.

Keep Scotland Beautiful teamed up with The National Lottery Community Fund to create The Highland Community Waste Partnership.

It is hoped the new three-year posts will encourage collaboration, engagement and action addressing waste and consumption.

In Ullapool, Community Development Officer for Ullapool Community Trust is advertised and another Project Officer is needed at Transition Black Isle.

Post holders will host activities to educate the ideas behind the partnership whilst engaging with individuals, communities, businesses and the council, playing a key part in the net zero aim.

The partnership will use the next three years to raise awareness, educate and change behaviour on food waste, use of plastics and recycling.

Georgina Massouraki, programme coordinator with Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “The Highland Community Waste Partnership is a very ambitious and exciting programme which sits at the cutting edge of the national and indeed global sustainability agendas.

“With 80% of Scotland’s carbon footprint coming from the materials, goods and services that we consume, this programme is a chance to get to the heart of the matter, working with real communities and places in the Highlands to build learning and create value both in terms of supporting community development, improving environmental quality as well as reducing carbon emissions and combatting climate change.

“We are delighted to be able to establish these employment opportunities, through the Partnership, to be part of this exciting project and we can’t wait to see where the project goes.

“Thanks to The National Lottery, the exciting programme will tackle key issues in the way that we currently consume and waste and help lead the way for Scotland to transition towards a more circular economy and a Net Zero future."
