THE Highlands' four day run without fresh positive tests for Covid-19 has ended after it registered one of only eight newly-confirmed cases in Scotland today.

The overall tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in the NHS Highland board area rose from 374 to 375 when the latest daily update was made at 2pm today.

Scotland's eight new cases took the national total to 18,236. Of those, some 452 were being treated in the nation's hospitals last night, five of whom were in intensive care.

However, there were once again no fatalities recorded among those who tested positive for the virus, and the national death toll remained 2482 for another day.

Elsewhere in the north, the health boards for Orkney, Shetland and Eileanan Siar all recorded no new cases once again.

But NHS Grampian's area registered two of Scotland's eight new cases, to take that region's tally to 1419.

NHS Tayside, meanwhile, has recorded 1768 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
