MSP Maree Todd to open new Assynt deer larder with fun family day at weekend

Caithness, Sutherland and Ross MSP Maree Todd is to officially open a new community deer larder at Assynt on Sunday.

The new larder replaces an existing one at Glencanisp that is no longer fit for purpose. It will be available for use by the wider community.

The initiative has been funded by wild land charity the John Muir Trust and the Coigach and Assynt Living Landscape Partnership (CALLP), and has been built in partnership with the Assynt Foundation.

An open invitation has gone out to local residents to attend the opening ceremony and join in the celebrations which are set to kick off at around 2pm.

A number of fun activities for all the family have been organised

There will be music, CALLP stalls, a free barbecue, refreshments – and lots of cake!

In addition an exhibition is being run by the artist in residence in the old refurbished larder.

A free shuttle bus has been laid on to Glencanisp and anyone in need of transport is asked to meet at 1.30pm at Bay View car park.

The bus will return to the car park at the end of the event.
