HALF-a-century after the Beatles played live in Aberdeen, the next best thing – the hugely successful West End Fab Four extravaganza Let It Be – is heading for the North-east.

Following an amazing run in London, the hit show is coming to His Majesty's Theatre from Monday to Saturday, April 14 to 19 next year.

Following in the footsteps of The Beatles' own early 1960s UK tours – they played Aberdeen's Beach Ballroom in January 1963 – Let It Be will play the length and breadth of the country next year.

"The Beatles are the world's most successful band and their visit to Aberdeen 50 years ago in the early days of Beatlemania is one of the city's most abiding memories," said Aberdeen Performing Arts' Joyce Summers.

"We cannot wait to bring their music and their legacy, which still influences bands and musicians today, back to the city and to be the first venue in Scotland to host the show is a real coup for us."

The Let It Be tour kicks off in February in Manchester and several of the original London cast will tour with the show. The full cast line-up will be announced shortly.

Confirmation of the show's Aberdeen run came hard on the heels of the production's first birthday in the West End, which was celebrated with a celebrity gala performance at its London home, the Savoy Theatre.

Let It Be showcases the Fab Four's music in a spectacular theatrical concert charting the band's meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool's Cavern Club, to the heights of Beatlemania and their later studio masterpieces.

The show is packed with more than 40 of The Beatles' greatest hits including: I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Hard Day's Night, Day Tripper, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Strawberry Fields, When I'm 64, Get Back and many more.

It has delighted audiences around the world, including New York, Germany and Monaco, with upcoming dates in Japan and Moscow.

Tickets for the Aberdeen shows are on sale from today online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at the Aberdeen Box Office outlets at the Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre.
