Girl, nine, died after being knocked down by tractor as she rode bike

A nine-year-old girl has died after being knocked down while riding her bike.

Naomi Sarah Ferrans was on her bike in Castle Place in her hometown of New Cumnock, East Ayrshire, when she was struck by a tractor towing a trailer.

The crash happened at about 12.35pm on Monday.

Police Scotland said the emergency services attended and Naomi was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for more than seven hours for investigations.

Inspector Craig Beaver said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Naomi at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“Our inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1311 of September 18.
