AN Easter Ross man has won a national award for his work on a Highland housing estate which is under construction.

Jeff Calder (56), from Alness, is a site manager at Barratt Homes’ Ness Castle site in Inverness.

He is one of three Barratt Homes site managers in the Highlands who have been recognised by the National House Building Council (NHBC) in its annual Pride in the Job Quality awards.

A fourth Highland winner, Zander Sutherland – better known as a Brora Rangers footballer – was also handed the honour for his work on Tulloch Homes’ Broomhill development in Muir of Ord.

Known as the Oscars of the housebuilding industry, the Pride in the Job Quality awards recognise the best run building sites in the country and are the highest accolade a site manager can achieve.

This year Barratt North Scotland, scooped six of the 84 Pride in the Job Quality Awards given to site managers across the entire Barratt Group.

It is the 15th year in a row that Barratt has won more of these awards than any other housebuilder. In addition to spot checks from the NHBC, site managers were judged on consistency, attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise and health and safety, with just 450 winners chosen from over 16,000 entrants.
