A ROSS-SHIRE ensemble will use the power of their music in support of a charity for children and young adults with learning disabilities.

Dingwall Gaelic Choir will to hold their Variety Concert on Friday, May 27 at Dingwall Academy to raise vital funds for the Elsie Normington Foundation's Haven Appeal.

The initiative will support the construction of a centre for children and young people with multiple and complex needs in the Highlands.

The concert was initially meant to take place in 2020, but it had to be postponed owing to the Covid pandemic. .

Alison Matheson from Dingwall Gaelic Choir said: "Dingwall Gaelic Choir has helped raise funds for many local charities over the years and in 2020 planned its annual Variety Concert to raise funds for the Elsie Normington Foundation’s Haven Centre project.

"Having to cancel the event owing to the pandemic, the choir is to keep its promise to the foundation.

"Compered by Academy Rector Karen Cormack, a past president of the choir, the concert, as the name suggests, is full of variety to suit all tastes with accordion and fiddle music from the Inver-Ross Group, soprano Aimee Georgeson, 12 year old Inverness musician Fraser Donaldson, piper Ruairidh Drennan, the Astar Ceilidh Group and well known popular Gaelic singer Mod Gold Medallist Darren Maclean. The choir will also perform pieces in English and Gaelic."

"The choir hopes to support the Haven Appeal towards its goal to continue building a centre in Inverness to cater for children and young people with multiple and complex needs across the Highlands."

The event will be held at Dingwall Academy at 7.30pm, with proceeds from the event shared with the charity.

Admission will start at 7pm at £10 for adults and £5 for school pupils, and it will include tea, coffee and shortbread at the interval.
