A TOTAL of £25,000 has been handed over to two Highland charities by the organisers of a special event in memory of a fun-loving Muir of Ord wife and mother who passed away earlier this year after a battle with diabetes.
Gary Tuach, with family and close friends, organised the Celebrating Amy Vegas-style dinner event in memory of his late wife who was only 39 when she died in February.
She was from Muir of Ord and the fundraising event, attended by more than 260 people, was held in the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness in October.
The event raised in the region of £30,000 with proceeds split equally between Highland Hospice and Mikeysline.
Speaking after the event, Mr Tuach said: “For me it was always about creating a memorable event to Celebrate Amy and I think we more than achieved that – we took Vegas to Inverness and had the best time together while raising a fantastic amount of money for local causes in our area.
“There are just too many people to thank but myself and (daughter) Chloe are forever grateful to everyone involved and we are already excited about future events to keep Amy’s memory with us while continuing to raise money for local causes.”
Receiving £12,500, a spokeswoman for the hospice said: “We would like to once again thank Gary and the Celebrating Amy organising committee for choosing us to benefit from such a wonderful event.”

Mental health charity Mikeysline was equally thankful, receiving the same amount.
A spokesman said: “These funds will go towards maintaining our text-based support service, our face-to-face support in Hives across the Highlands, and our partnerships with local schools to promote mental health education with our young people.”
