Muir of Ord roofer fined for careless driving at Inverness court

A Muir of Ord man who was spotted by police speeding as he passed the officers dealing with another incident, was pursued.

Roofer William Beattie, aged 40, of Highfield Circle, Muir of Ord pulled into a lay-by after a dangerous overtake on the A862 between Conon Bridge and Muir of Ord in the evening of May 7 last year.

Fiscal depute Shamilah Ghafar said: "His speed was in excess of 80mph." The single carriageway is a 60mph zone.

Beattie admitted careless driving and was fined £640 at Inverness Sheriff Court.

His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said: "This is at the higher end of careless driving."
