Muir of Ord hall revamp to be marked with a party

REFURBISHMENT of a key village hall will be celebrated at a special event this weekend.
Muir of Ord Village Hall recently underwent a £250,000 revamp to improve the insulation, replaced windows and doors and a better heating system.
More space for rentals and modernising of the toilets was also part of the work.
And to celebrate the 125-year-old building’s fresh lease of life, an event will be held in the hall on Saturday from 2pm to 5pm – and all are invited to the family-friendly event.
There will be ceilidh music and dancing with Feis Rois, stovies by Cafe Artysans, activities with MOO Food, homebakes and a raffle.
The event is also being held in conjunction with the ‘Making Muir of Ord Stand Out’ Project with Tesco Bags for Help.
The £250,000 cost of the refurbishment work was secured from several sources — Highland Council, SSE’s energy efficiency fund and Fairburn wind farm fund, and the Highland Cross.
The work marks the latest chapter in a long history which dates back to 1893. In recent years the building has been run by the Muir of Ord Hall & Facilities Company, after the community stepped up to buy the hall for the nominal fee of £1 in May 2012 when Highland Council decided to divest itself of the site.
It was accepted at the time that if it was ever to cover its own costs, a refurbishment would be required. Plans were drawn up and approved in the middle of 2016.
