AN expanding Ross-shire engineering firm has lengthened its reach across the border with the acquisition of a chemical dosing specialist.

RSE (Ross-shire Engineering) says the deal over Basingstoke-based W.E.S., which also works for the UK water industry, will enhance its standing as one of the country’s leading specialist water treatment and clean energy solutions providers.

Under the deal, RSE will take up a majority equity share in the business whilst retaining the key skills of the W.E.S. management team. It is the latest in a series of planned acquisitions and represents another move south of the border for the Muir of Ord-headquartered firm which acquired engineering group Aciem in March.

RSE managing director, Allan Dallas, said: “We are delighted to welcome W.E.S. into the RSE group of businesses. We have been successful in the past year exporting our award-winning water treatment systems into the English market, with demand growing faster than we first expected.

"Our interest in acquiring W.E.S. is to extend the reach of our existing chemical dosing offering, and we are pleased to now have a highly capable engineering team based in the south. W.E.S. has been very innovative in developing products over the past few years, and we believe these will complement our own products.”

All of W.E.S’s 50 staff are based in Basingstoke in Hampshire.

RSE now boasts 800-plus staff skilled in the design, engineering and delivery of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation (MEICA) systems.

RSE is owned by Envoy & Partners Ltd, a spin-off from oilfield service company Global

Energy Group. Envoy’s chief executive officer Iain MacGregor said the latest deal is the second of four acquisitions lined up for RSE in the coming year, which should take the company to over £100 million in revenue.

The owners plan to build a specialist MEICA contractor to the UK water sector with revenues exceeding £250 million.
