AN award-winning bakery which admitted that the coronavirus crisis "almost finished us" is gearing up to re-open later this month in scaled down form.

The supplier of fresh, handmade, high quality cake for wholesale and retail, has been a rising success story since launch five years ago.

Bad Girl Bakery in Muir of Ord started out as a sole-trading home-based cake business with support from the Highland Council’s Loan Fund.

In 2017, after being awarded a contract to supply the Caledonian Sleeper, it moved to new premises and opened a café and bakery with further support.

Two months later, after winning a contract to supply National Trust for Scotland and the introduction of a new mobile service the company expanded, with further support from the council, into a vacant shop unit next door.

In a post on its social media channels this week, it said: "Sorry we’ve been so quite lately, but like so many others things have been really tough for our wee business and it almost finished us. We’re a bit battered and bruised and smaller than we were but we’re pleased and relieved to let you know that we will be opening again soon"

It hopes that will be later this month.

It added: "Of course our cafe business will have to stay closed but we will be open for takeaway cake, breakfast and lunch and we’re turning the cafe space onto a wee shop. We’ll be selling baking ingredients, tools and accessories as well as a new range of Bad Girl bread and some new Bad Girl treats. We can’t wait to see you all again."

The announcement has been warmly received by fans of the brand which has built up a loyal local following.
