STICK to social distancing guidance and advice to stay at home, a Ross MSP has urged the public as the lockdown restrictions continue into their seventh week.
Several communities have contacted Kate Forbes, the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP, with concerns about a sudden influx of visitors to popular Highland beauty spots, including Chanonry Point and Rosemarkie beach in Ross-shire.
Ms Forbes has been in regular contact with local police officers, who are closely monitoring tourist hotspots and enforcing the restrictions.
She said: “I know that this is a very difficult time for everybody, particularly as we approach the seventh weekend of lockdown.
“There is a temptation to relax the rules, but it has never been so important to stick to the rules and stay at home.
“This lockdown is clearly having a huge impact on us all – on our health, our economy and our livelihoods. However difficult this is, it does mean that we are saving the lives and that is surely worth following the rules.”
She added: “The police are doing a sterling job just now in ensuring that we all comply with government restrictions.
“The police have the powers to enforce those restrictions, and from speaking to them recently, I understand that they are patrolling areas that are popular with tourists and visitors to ensure compliance.
“I will continue to stay closely in touch with the local officers, and I trust them to continue to keep us safe by working in our communities during this difficult time.”
