The Highland tourism sector looks set to suffer another devastating blow with as many as 106 staff to go at MacDonald’s Resorts and Hotels in Aviemore.
In total, 95 of those are believed to be in staff accommodation – and could become homeless.
A spokesman for the hotel group hoped that could be avoided before making anyone homeless, saying: “Throughout this crisis, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to staff, doing all that we can to support them during these difficult times.
“We will continue to provide accommodation to employees for as long as we possibly can. We are also engaging with the local council and national government bodies to ensure that all employees have access to external support networks.”
Highland Council staff are already working on housing options for those in danger of being left homeless.
A spokesman for Skills Development Scotland (SDS) said: “SDS has met with MacDonald Hotels and Resorts to discuss PACE support for staff at risk of redundancy. These discussions are currently ongoing.
“This response is being co-ordinated with Scottish Government and PACE partners including Highland Council and Citizens Advice Scotland to ensure those affected have access to the full range of services they require.”
