THE success of an Easter Ross firm has been hailed as the way to go by the Secretary of State for Scotland.

Michael Moore admitted he was "intrigued" to learn that the Kirker Europe plant in Invergordon can claim to be Europe’s largest manufacturer of nail polish.

He was in town with local MP John Thurso to view the extended factory and to get the lowdown on its exporting success.

Kirker Europe manufactures and bottles nail polish for a variety of well known brands and exports throughout the world. The company currently employs 140 people.

Michael Moore said: “Kirker Europe are an outstanding example of a successful British manufacturer which has increased sales and jobs as a direct result of high quality and design innovation.

“When John told me Europe’s largest manufacturer of nail polish was based in Invergordon I was intrigued. Now I have seen what they have done I am very glad I had the opportunity to learn about this success story.”

John Thurso MP said: “There are many examples in the north of excellent manufacturing companies. Manufacturing industry accounts for nearly 20 per cent of the local economy, well above the national average, and is a success story we need to promote."

Graham MacKenzie, operations manager for Kirker, said: “These are exciting times for Kirker Europe as we continue to develop and invest in new facilities and jobs to meet the challenge of rising customer demand for our product.

"The investment demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to development of the Invergordon facility as the base for our UK and European operations.”
