Traced safe and well after major missing person alert

A MAN posted missing from his Easter Ross home after heading out on a fishing trip has been traced safe and well.

John Scott, reported missing from his home in the Tain area on Thursday morning, has been traced safe and well locally, Northern Constabulary said in a statement.

Police thanked members of the public for their assistance following the alert.

Mr Scott had not been seen since 8am on Thursday, when he left to go fishing and a major search centred on the Alness area around the River Averon.

The search for Mr Scott, of Tain's Scotsburn Road, included police, dog section staff, the Coastguard, RNLI and a rescue helicopter.
