A beloved dog has been reunited with its owner after disappearing from the scene of a crash in Wester Ross.

Raymond Orr (28) and his dog Farrah were travelling along to see family in Broadford on Monday morning, when he lost grip of the car on the road due to the hot weather, hit the rockface and the car rolled over multiple times near the Strathcarron Restaurant.

When Raymond regained consciousness – hanging upside down – he realised Farrah was nowhere to be seen.

He said: "I was airlifted from Strathcarron to Raigmore where I was given treatment and put in a neck brace. I managed to walk away from it, and it was a bad accident.

"But Farrah never turned up and it's all I could think about."

After putting out a social media post, the community around Strathcarron and further afield launched a search party to look for the missing dog.

Raymond who is from Achintraid said: "1200 people shared the post about Farrah being missing and so many were out looking for her.

"I'd gone out to have a look on Monday but I was too sore, so I was impressed that so many people gave their time to join the search."

On Wednesday morning, 48 hours after the crash, Raymond received a call to say that Farrah had been spotted in Lochcarron.

"I had been so worried about her, she had her lead still on so I was scared she was going to get stuck on something and not be able to escape or that she was injured," he said.

"When I got the call to say she had been spotted in Lochcarron I called my friend who went to find her.

"When she let me know Farrah was safe I was jumping for joy! I was so relieved."

Raymond treated Farrah to a big meal yesterday and she escaped the whole ordeal with a sore paw and a scratch on her back.

He said: "I just want to give a massive thank you to the local community who helped find Farrah, and to the three woman who stayed with me at the accident until the ambulance came.

"I haven't been able to relax until now, so thank you."
