Suicide prevention charity Mikeysline is asking fundraisers to take on an extra special event on the longest day to raise much needed money.

Mikeysline, which run phone lines and support services for people in crisis, has launched a campaign to get people out and about on June 19, to give the charity a much needed cash boost.

In its Longest Day Cycle Challenge, people are being asked to choose a route, set a challenge and set up a fundraising page to support its crucial work in the Highlands.

A Mikeysline spokeswoman said: "Saturday June 19, 2021 is this year's longest day.

"When we are feeling low, struggling with different emotions or situations, it can feel like the 'longest day'. However, our aim is to have an uplifting longest day, one where you get to achieve your goal whilst raising awareness of Mikeysline and if you are able, also raise funds for us.

"If you would like to support this Mikeysline's 2021 cycling fundraiser, we are asking you to: choose your route, make your challenge and make it your longest day."

Mikeysline was founded in late 2015 after a number of suicides in the Highland area. It runs two services – a text-based support, which includes SMS, Facebook Messenger, Webchat and Twitter. It also runs the Hive, a crisis centre, with appointments and drop ins available in Inverness city centre. During the lockdown restrictions Mikeysline are offering a call back service to anyone in crisis.

Organisers say anyone willing to take part in the Longest Day Cycling Challenge can choose how they raise money for Mikeysline. She continued: "One option may be to set up a fundraising page on a site such as Justgiving - https://www.justgiving.com/ or another fundraising site that you may be familiar with.

"We would love to hear about your plans and your achievements and see your photos, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at enquiries@mikeysline.co.uk should you wish to."

She added: "We hope you enjoy your longest day. Thank you so much to everyone taking part and for supporting Mikeysline, and good luck!"
