Met Office issues yellow weather warning for torrential rain in parts of the Highlands; Inverness, northern Loch Ness, Black Isle, Easter Ross, eastern Sutherland and Caithness are within the warning area; rail and road journeys may be affected, forecasters warn

A YELLOW warning for torrential rain has been issued for parts of the Highlands.

The Met Office warning, which comes into force at 4pm on Saturday and runs until 9am on Sunday, affects an area from the northern end of Loch Ness all the way up to Caithness.

Inverness, the Black Isle, Easter Ross and eastern parts of Sutherland close to the Moray Firth are also affected.

"Persistent and heavy rain from Saturday afternoon [is] likely to bring some disruption from flooding," said a Met Office spokesman.

"Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely. Bus and train services [will] probably be affected, with journey times taking longer.

"Spray and flooding on roads [will] probably make journey times longer."
