More snow and ice is expected in Ross-shire and the rest of the northern Highlands after the Met Office extended its yellow weather warning.

It has warned members of the public to beware of developing icy surfaces in the Highlands, as well as Moray, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Wintry showers and lying snow in some places are expected and the warning covers the period from 6pm today until 10am tomorrow.

Strong northerly winds have been forecast in the Highlands with early gales or severe gales expected in the Western Isles.

Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations and it is important to read the content of yellow warnings to determine which weather situation is being covered by the warning.
