A FIRST-of-its-kind community cafe in Tain promoting positive mental health over a cup of coffee could now become a regular "pop-up" event across the surrounding district.

The first Tain and District Community Cafe was held at Tain Royal Academy at the weekend following an open meeting last summer that brought together different groups in the area to promote the importance of mental health.

A range of support groups, local clubs and organisations got together to raise awareness of their cause and offer support. There were also a range of workshops available including taster meditation sessions, story time, relaxation colouring, physical challenges and even a community jigsaw.

Heartfelt presentations were given by Sarah MacKenzie, the chairwoman of Tain and District Development Trust, Ruth Gagan from Silverback Gym and Scott Boyd, who is sporting director at Ross County Football Club on their passion for getting involved.

Tain Royal Academy pupils were on duty to lend a hand serving teas, help with workshops and share their experience as mental health first aiders within the school.

It is hoped the cafe will become a more regular event with the possibility of touring around the local area.
