A Men’s Shed in Wester Ross is close to securing a permanent social recreation facility after plans were lodged for a prefab cabin and polycrub tunnel.
Lochcarron Men’s Shed may soon boast a cabin and polytunnel in the eastern grounds of the village’s Howard Doris Centre.
If approved, the prefab cabin, will be made of steel and initially painted green to blend into neighbouring vegetation, but is expected to be clad in vertical larch or Douglas Fir planks at a “later date”.
The polycrub will be used for recreational horticulture associated with the Men’s Shed.
In supporting statements submitted with the application, the applicant - Lochcarron Community Council - said: “It is proposed to site a pre-fabricated cabin and erect a factory produced "polycrub" in the grounds of the Howard Doris Centre on its eastern elevation.
“The cabin is to provide a permanent social recreation facility and base for Lochcarron and District Men's Shed, constructed in steel and decorated to match the adjacent building.
2The "polycrub" is for recreational horticulture, constructed of polycarbonate sheet over polyethylene hoops and timber plank.”
They continued: “This pre-fabricated shed is being donated to the community by a construction business and is a steel portacabin type unit with flat steel external cladding. It is currently painted green and the proposal is to initially retain the green finish to blend into the surrounding vegetation but at a later date to clad the external walls in vertical Larch or Doulas Fir planking.
“We understand this to be acceptable to the [Highland Council] planning department.”
