Memories of mum inspire Highland Hospice staff nurse to tackle West Highland Way and Ben Nevis challenge

A HOSPICE staff nurse will be stepping out for charity in memory of her late mother.
Leanne Scott, who works for Highland Hospice, is training for her July challenge which will see her attempt to walk the West Highland Way and climb Ben Nevis in just six days.
Her mother Jacqueline died in 1999, aged just 37, under the hospice’s care.
The fundraising effort is part of the charity’s Step Out campaign.
She said: “Although I was only five years old when I lost my mum, I have never forgotten the love and attention our family received from the hospice.
“My twin Andrew and I weren’t aware of what was going on with mum until after she died and the staff who worked at the hospice really were amazing.
“It was because of this that I wanted to become a nurse and I like to think I can give back the loving care we as a family and mum received when she was in the hospice.”
She started working for the hospice as a staff nurse in 2019 and said she feels very privileged to be a part of such a vital service, providing palliative care for the Highlands.
She added: “This year our mum should be celebrating her 60th birthday, so in celebration of her life I will be walking the West Highland Way, which is 96 miles, and to finish off I will be climbing Ben Nevis.
“Although I am doing this challenge on my own, I know mum will be with me each step of the way.”
