TALENTED cadets from Ross-shire have proven they are among the best in the UK after returning with a clutch of medals from a major competition.

Members of the 379 (County of Ross) Squadron won four gold and four silver medals after representing Scotland and Northern Ireland at the Royal Air Force Air Cadet National Aircraft Recognition finals at RAF Cranwell.

It was the 12th year in a row that the squadron took on the rest of the country after once again winning through the under 16 and open team competition heats.

This time round it was Sergeant Will Cawte, Cadet Ryan Cleary, Cadet Alfie Robertson and Cadet Sam Wallace who made the trip to RAF Cranwell for the national finals.

And they showed what they are made of when Sgt Will Cawte, Cdt Ryan Cleary and Cdt Sam Wallace won the under-16 team competition; and Sgt Cawte also won the under 16 individual contest by securing the highest score.

To add to their tally, Sgt Cawte, Cdt Alfie Robertson and Cdt Sam Wallace also won the runners-up team medals in the open team competition.

And Sgt Cawte won a runners-up medal in the individual open competition.

The air cadets are always keen to welcome new members who can join from the age of 13.

The squadron meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm at the ATC Hut on Alness Industrial Estate.
