A MASSIVE residential scheme comprising 72 homes and over 5,000sq ft of floor space for shops is being earmarked for a scenic site on the banks of the River Conon.

The development could be built on the site of the former Pescanova fish factory in Conon Bridge after Inverness firm HPG signalled its intent to lodge an application.

Highland Council’s north planning applications committee will discuss HPG’s proposal of application notice on Tuesday (December 16).

The former fish factory site bordering the High Street is covered in undergrowth and currently used as a yard by energy company SSE for its Beauly to Denny power line project.

The housing firm will consult the public over its plans at two meetings and a public exhibition.

The land forms a prime site linking the villages of Conon and Maryburgh.

The derelict fish factory building had been a blight on the landscape of Conon Bridge since it was destroyed by fire in 1998. But last year the remaining buildings were removed and the site was cleaned up when SSE take over the lease.
