A YOUNG man who has put his heart, soul and head into fundraising for a better wheelchair has reached halfway in his fundraising efforts.

Dylan Bogue, who had his 21 birthday during the lockdown, has riased more than £8000 towards an all terrain X8 wheelchair to replace his ailing NHS issue one.

Dylan, from Alness, has thanked everyone who ha supported him over his 25-day challenge to wheel as far as a marathon, and he completed 30 miles.

Dylan, who volunteers at Albyn Housing Association, was delighted with the outcome thanking everyone who has supported him over the last month, not only for the money they have given, but also for improving his "head".

Dylan said: "Since I started this challenge I am sleeping better, feeling good and it is helping with my head."

Dylan lives with a life limiting condition, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which means he is limited in his movement and is confined to a wheelchair.

But after one month of fundraising the Celtic, Livingston and Ross County fan is wheel closer to achieving his dream.

The all terrain X8 would allow him to go further than he can at the moment, as his wheelchair struggles to travel a mile before the battery fails, and the last time he was on a beach was when his father carried him there as a child.

His aunt, Karen Brownlee, who is also his full time carer, said: "We are stunned that we have come so far in such a short period of time. There are so many people to thank, special mention must be made of 14-year-old Ewan Gliniecki who raised more than £2000 for Dylan.

"When we presented Dylan with his cheques at lunchtime, we were just short of the halfway mark at £7992.96, but since then people have handed us donations so we are now over £8000. It is wonderful.

"For Dylan this is a life changing experience, and we really want to keep it going if we can.

"We know it is a lot to ask of people when everyone is feeling the pinch, so we are overwhelmed with everyone's kindness."

Dylan has been using gofundme to raise his money, and we are so thankful to them for getting us started. But for those people who want to pay money directly to us, or who want to enter one of the raffles they can put the money directly into Dylan's savings account.

"Thank you so much for the support."
