A driver was fined £400 and had his licence endorsed after failing to observe the speed restriction on his vehicle on a stretch of road in Easter Ross.

John Robertson (31), of Hospital Road, Wick was towing a trailer and should have kept to a limit of 50mph according to regulations, Tain Sheriff Court was told.

But the court heard that he was clocked at 77mph on Friday, June 26 this year.

But procurator fiscal depute David Morton said he had pleaded guilty by letter to a contravention of the Road Traffic Act on the trunk road at Pitmaduthie by Nigg, Easter Ross.

Mr Morton told the court: “It simply so happened that on this date road policing officers were checking speeds at the Pitmaduthie location.”

Sheriff Gary Aitken imposed a £400 fine and endorsed Robertson’s licence by a total of four penalty points.
