A former Tain man is facing jail after an incident where he punctured a car tyre with a knife before fighting.

Jamie Mcarrick, now of Morven Place, Aboyne, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted malicious damage, assault to injury and possession of a knife in Kirkside, Alness on February 27 last year.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald told the 33-year-old: "These are serious matters and the court is considering all options. You have been in prison before and you know what that means. But I will continue your bail."

She deferred sentence until November 21 at noon for a background report.

The court was told that a woman and her partner were in a car in the Easter Ross housing estate when they saw Mcarrick approach with a large knife with an eight-inch blade and a rainbow handle.

Fiscal depute Susan Love said: "He appeared intoxicated and she secured the vehicle as a precaution. He then began to stab the nearside tyre three or four times. She drove off to prevent further damage."

However a man came out of a nearby property to talk to a friend and was attacked by Mcarrick.

"He was hit with force on the head with an unknown object. Both then began fighting, police were called and broke it up." Ms Love said.

The court was told Mcarrick had to be taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to numerous cuts. The other man refused medical treatment.
