SHOPPERS in a Highland town were astonished this morning to hear the nostalgic roar of WWII plans overhead.

That's the spit of a Spit!

The two magnificent flying machines passed over Aviemore just after 10.30am and had necks craning in wonder.

The Ross-shire Journal's sister paper the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald heard that a Spitfire was heading north but, as sharp-eyed photographer David Macleod said: "Some were saying they were both Spits and one was in war livery, but no-one seemed to be sure what the plane in front was representing."
