PEOPLE coming to the Highlands to experience travelling the North Coast 500 route are among the target customers who might be drawn to luxury self-catering tourist suites proposed for Tain’s High Street.

Neil and Wendy Macintosh, of Coilte Services Ltd, Lewiston, have applied to Highland Council for planning permission to convert offices on the first and second floors of Kingsway House – a mock Tudor building in Tain Conservation Area.

Six suites are proposed, with the third or top floor as “back-up facilities.” The Co-op occupies the ground floor.

A planning statement on behalf of the applicant reads: “This proposal would make a positive and long lasting contribution to the town centre.”

It points out Tain is on the NC500 route and Kingsway House is in the vicinity of several car parks.

The statement adds: “The vision is to create a tranquil escape and memorable holiday experience in a Victorian county town with access to the coast.”

Potential customers would be families, couples, hikers, and cyclists seeking staycation holidays in five-star accommodation.

It also pointed out that the applicants have been in the hospitality business for 20 years, during which they ran a hostel for 14 years and currently have a holiday cottage and B&B in Drumnadrochit.
