A “SIGNIFICANT” donation by solicitors in Tain will boost services for those living with dementia in Easter Ross.

Georgesons Solicitors and Estate Agents, which has an office in Tain as well as in Wick and Thurso, has raised £6640 for Alzheimer Scotland by donating cash paid by clients who were making wills.

And the charity’s Tain centre is first in line for a share of the cash.

“One of the first things we shall do is buy a smart TV for our Tain base, which our clients will love,” said Gail Goller, service manager for Alzheimer Scotland, North Highland Services.

“[The money] is significant and will help us to support people living with dementia and their families.

“We do this through dementia advisors, 24 hour helpline as well as enhancing our therapeutic day services and providing drop-in cafes, carer support groups and other therapeutic and interest groups.”

A cheque for the four-figure sum was handed over in Georgesons’ Wick office by associate solicitor Kimberley Mackay watched on by staff from all three sites. She said the sum raised was “incredible”, adding: “It was hard work for us but we have to take our hats off to our clients who responded so wonderfully to the appeal.

“Alzheimer tell us that this is going to make a big difference. They rarely get such a huge donation and, since we have insisted that this is used locally in Caithness, Ross-shire and Sutherland, they are going to splash out for their clients.”
