MR John Mackay, butcher, Dingwall, is once more installed in business in those striking premises in High Street, which were of his own creation.

Mr Mackay served with the Army from August, 1914, until being demobilised a week or two ago, and in re-opening is claiming and will receive the patronage of former supporters. Restrictions remain upon those who open new businesses, but the Government have wisely placed no obstacle in the way of those who responded to the country's call. Mr Mackay, who is ably assisted by another returned soldier, will doubtless do the trade well, and his smart up-to-date methods will at once commend themselves to all who have dealings with him. Both sides of his business have been re-organised and supplies of both meat and fish are assured.

Invergordon is considering the possibility of introducing electric light to the town. Over 100 shopkeepers and householders have indicated their intention of introducing the light if it is forthcoming.

Much regret is felt at the passing away of an old, well-known and highly respected resident at Brahan in the person of Miss Margaret Stewart, Bogbain Farm. The Stewarts of Bogbain have been resident on the Brahan estate for about three centuries, the originals having come from Wigtownshire.

PEOPLE often say in this modern age, that children get everything they want and never appreciate anything that they are given. The pupils of Contin School, however, have proved that young people still have enthusiasm, and are prepared to take the initiative. The boys were practising for the junior football competition, and the girls thought they would look much smarter in a “strip". They approached the headmaster for permission to arrange a small sale to raise money to purchase the strip. Permission was granted, the children set forth with great drive, securing the assistance of mothers, friends and neighbours.

The excellent total of £57 was realised. The “strip” is now on order.

Ross County completed their home fixtures on Saturday with a 3-3 draw with Peterhead, and in do doing maintained their undefeated record at Victoria Park this season.

What pleased Dingwall supporters about this match was the performance of their two teenage inside forwards – sixteen-year-old Stanley Sokolowski and John Buchanan. Both showed much potential with a natural flair for the game, With careful handling the boys should do well.

Jim Lynas scored twice for County and Don Maclennan got the other one.

HIGHLANDS Fabricators at Nigg are already beginning to take on more workers following the announcement last week by Hamilton Oil that the Easter Ross yard has been awarded the Liverpool Bay contract.

The award of the £30 million contract – to build satellite jackets, piles and topsides for the Liverpool Bay Hamilton, Hamilton North and Lennox fields and the Douglas wellhead tower, as well as the jacket and piles for the Douglas Central Production platform – will mean hundreds of jobs for the yard.

For the second time in a very short space of time, County and Brora 'locked horns' in what was to prove yet another dour end of season tussle. Manager Bobby Wilson included Ross Cathcart, Willie Watt and Billy Ferries from the start, giving them another chance to show what they can offer for next season.

Alan Duff and Gordon Connelly scored the County goals in a 2-1 win.
