MORE than eight inches of snow fell at a Ross-shire loch yesterday, BBC forecasters have revealed.

Presenter Judith Ralston revealed that 22cm – or 8.5 inches – fell in the Loch Glascarnoch area on Wednesday, when she gave her latest forecast update last night.

The reservoir sits next to the vital A835 Ullapool-Dingwall trunk road, which was left in treacherous driving condition during the worst of yesterday’s snowfall.

Live traffic cameras at neighbouring Aultguish show the road clear this morning.

But other parts of the Highlands have not been so lucky.

Traffic Scotland this morning warned motorists of heavy snowfalls at the Slochd on the A9 and urged motorists to “take care, drive to the conditions, and pack an emergency travel kit”.

However, they also revealed that a gritter was nearby, and live traffic cameras showed vehicles still moving on the road.
