A CAR ferry service scrapped after the vessel ran aground last week is set to be back in action on Tuesday following repairs.

The car ferry service, The Glenachulish, which has been operating between Lochcarron and Stromeferry during the road closure, will resume at 7am on Tuesday following repair, Highland Council said in a statement.

On Thursday afternoon last week it ran aground when the engine cut out as it approached the Lochcarron slipway.

It has been providing a link for communities affected by the Stromeferry bypass route which has been affected since December 22 last year by rockfall problems.

The A890 will remain closed to allow urgent remedial work on the rockface to continue.

Motorists are advised that strong winds are forecast from Tuesday lunch time when a review will be made of the conditions to determine if it is safe for the ferry to operate.

In windy conditions, the road will not be able to open.
