A CHURCH in Tain is having a belated “lambing time” with a twist because of the Covid outbreak two years ago.

And while the lambs in question are woolly like the real thing, that’s where any similarity ends.

Not long before lockdown started, members of Tain Parish Church came up with a novel idea to try and forge a closer connection between them and the community.

The idea was to hold a Lambs on the Loose Easter Hunt similar to the Elf on the Shelf promotions held in some towns at Christmas.

Church elder Barbara Brine said: “We asked for 12 volunteers to knit little woollen lambs and in the end 16 women came forward so we had quite a flock all ready to go into the shops.

“Sadly only two weeks before the event was due to start, Covid struck, and the lambs went into lockdown storage for two years.

“It was just a way of trying to connect with the community, but now at a happy time like Easter and with Covid hopefully being over its worst, it seemed a good idea bring the lambs out.”

Posters and forms have gone out to 16 shops, and the Lambs on the Loose hunt will run from Friday April 8 until Saturday April 23.

All the lambs have name tags and anyone entering the competition has to fill in the names of which lamb they have found and where.

Mrs Brine added: “At first it was going to be for children only but we have decided it should be open to all ages.”

Forms must be returned by Saturday April 30 and the winners will be drawn during Messy Church at 11am that day.

Mrs Brine added: “The shops and businesses have been enthusiastic and most helpful. All ages can search, and entry forms are available from the church, the library and some of the participating shops or by contacting me.”
