A season of goodwill visit to friends turned nasty when police were called to an incident in Muir of Ord.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that officers arrived at the Highfield Circle property on December 23, 2020 and tried to arrest 47-year-old Andrew Hossack, who has since moved to Milnafua, Alness.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that Hossack, who had been drinking, began to struggle and had to be put to the ground.

Officers continued to have difficulty getting him under control and he swore at one.

After he was arrested and charged, Ms Hood said he claimed he had been assaulted by one constable.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: "They had been spending time with neighbours and there was an incident which led to him being locked out of his then home. He was surprised to see the police and matters escalated.

"He accepts all this could have been avoided, When he was taken to the ground, he cut his head and felt somewhat aggrieved."

Labourer Hossack was fined £320.
