A LIFEBOAT crew's knowledge of the tides proved invaluable after a 1.18am shout next to the Skye Bridge this morning.

Kyle's RNLI lifeboat crew were paged after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service from Broadford spotted a yacht aground next to the Skye Bridge.

The lifeboat launched at 1:25am and arrived on scene two minutes later.

Two crew members were put aboard the yacht and, as the tide was receding, they assisted the sole occupant with securing the yacht to the rock to stop it moving as the tide went out.

The lifeboat was then stood down until 9am this morning when it launched again and returned to the scene in time for high tide. The yacht was successfully floated free from the rock around 10am and taken to the pontoons where it was secured alongside.

The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to the station.
