MOUNTAIN rescuers "have had a busier start" to 2023 than last year after a number of recent call-outs.

Kintail Mountain Rescue's recent incidents have covered a range of rescues – from supporting the Coastguard helicopter in the rescue of an injured walker who had fallen, to a late night search for a missing hiker.

A spokesman said: "May has brought more people to the big hills of Kintail, Glen Affric and Cluanie, resulting in a busy couple of weeks for the team responding to call outs.

"So far this year seems to be busier than last year!

"The recent incidents have been quite varied, including providing support to the Coastguard helicopter with the evacuation of an injured walker who had sustained injuries in a fall on steep ground, a late night search for a walker reported missing and going to the assistance of walkers benighted and stuck on a steep, rocky and pathless Munro descent.

"Last month’s training with the satellite phone was put to immediate good use to enable communications in some very remote and signal-less country."
