King Charles III's representative in Ross-shire thanks Dingwall-based deputy for 'steadfast support' as he steps down from role

ROSS-SHIRE's Lord Lieutenant has paid tribute to the "steadfast support" of a deputy who helped her find a feet when she took up the position.

David Lockett from Knockbain Farm, Dingwall, became a Deputy Lord Lieutenant in 1990 and then Vice Lord Lieutenant in 2019.

Upon his retiral this month, Andrew Townsend from Laide, who has been a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant since 2018, has become Vice Lord Lieutenant.

Lord Lieutenant Joanie Whiteford said: "I would like to thank David for his steadfast support, especially in the early days, as I got to grips with the responsibilities and expectations of the role of Lord Lieutenant."

The main duties of the Lord Lieutenant include helping to arrange visits by members of the Royal family and escorting Royal visitors; ensuring that the monarch's private office is kept informed about local issues relating to their area, particularly when a Royal visit is being planned, and making nominations for honours and awards.
