NIMBLE-fingered craftspeople joined Red Cross volunteers for a first of its kind Dingwall event which raised £1100 for the charity.

The Create with Kindness drop-in event at Dingwall Academy was set up to tie in with Mother's Day weekend, throw the spotlight on the work of the charity and tee up a national awareness-raising campaign.

Around 150 people attended the event at Dingwall Leisure Centre which featured stalls and demonstrations from a wide variety of local craftspeople, tying in with the theme of the day.

Red Cross senior community fundraiser for northern Scotland, Alison Munro-White, paid tribute to "an amazing group of stallholders" and to public support. She said: "We were fortunate to have a wide range of different crafters and the quality of all their work was outstanding. The footfall was a little lower than hoped at around 150 people, but the event still raised £1100 for Red Cross funds which is hugely appreciated and we’re very happy with this as a first event of its kind for us locally.

The event aimed to encourage sharing skills through crafters providing free demonstrations of an aspect of their work throughout the day. There will be Red Cross information, archive materials, a craft raffle and an all-day tea/coffee and cake café.

During Red Cross Week in May each year, The British Red Cross calls on the public across Highland to tune into the power of kindness’ by doing one kind act a day, helping the organisation raise funds by shaking a bucket, or donating to raise vital funds for people in crisis.
