A ROSS-SHIRE lifeboat crew was scrambled on Thursday evening following a spate of calls to police about a man “”acting strangely” on a bridge in Inverness.

Northern Constabulary says it received a number of calls just before 5.30pm which sparked fears the man may have entered the River Ness.

Kessock RNLI Lifeboat responded to calls by police for a full search of the area after the alarm was raised.

They were joined in the operation by officers from Northern Constabulary, HM Coastguard and RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter 137.

Following these enquiries and searches it was established that the male who had initially been seen on the bridge had left the area safely on foot. As a result, all agencies were subsequently stood down.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said, “This matter was established as being a false alarm with good intent and Northern Constabulary would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.”
