A Ross-shire man who attempted to murder a former partner assaulted his new girlfriend in a "terrifying" attack in their Dingwall home.

This week at Inverness Sheriff Court, 54-year-old joiner Stuart Pollock was jailed for a year after admitting the June 18, 2020 domestic assault to injury on his victim.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told that Pollock had been jailed for five years in 2016 for severely injuring another woman and was out on licence when he committed the latest assault.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told the court that Pollock had since been recalled to prison to finish his sentence with a release date in August next year.

Mr Weir said that Pollock and his victim had been drinking and she made a comment about his alcohol consumption.

Mr Weir added his mood deteriorated and after the pair went to bed, she later moved into another room.

"He immediately came after her, grabbed her, stating that he hated her and never wanted to see her again. He dragged her down the hallway, and forcibly pushed her, causing her to bang her face on a door.

"He then physically took her to the back door and threw her out. He then closed the door and locked it. She was terrified and was dressed only in her pyjamas, with no socks or shoes on," Mr Weir added.

Police were called and she had a cut on her nose and a swelling on her head.

Defence solicitor James Smith said his client had successfully completed a domestic abuse and alcohol abuse programme.

"He knew he was on licence, wanted her to leave but he used too much force. During Covid, he lost his employment and slipped back into alcohol misuse."

A two-year non-harassment order was imposed to protect his victim.
