POLICE believe a van driver may have “vital information” about a Ross-shire accident which claimed the life of a 20-year-old man.

Kyle Robertson died following the Sunday afternoon collision on the A835 near Garve which resulted in the road being closed for more than nine hours to allow an accident investigation to go ahead.

Mr Robertson, who was from Smithon in Inverness, was the driver of a red Seat Leon which was in collision with a white Audi S3 about a mile east of Garve at 2pm.

Police believe a “key witness” to the collision, who may have been driving a dark green van, may have some vital information that would assist the enquiry.

Sergeant Chris Murray of the road policing unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Kyle’s family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“Our enquiries into this tragic incident are ongoing and I would like to thank the members of the public who have already come forward. I would also like to ask anyone who has any information, or dash cam footage, who has not already spoken to us to make contact as soon as possible.”

The road was closed until 11.30pm to allow for a collision investigation to be carried out at the scene.

The road policing unit in Dingwall can be contacted by calling 101, making reference to NE2147/18.

Warm tributes to Mr Robertson have been made via social media. One friend wrote: “Such a good lad, always smiling and up for a laugh. You will light up heaven with that infectious laugh.”
